new york city.

Ok so this past weekend, Allie and I went to New York City where we shopped, shopped, shopped! We started downtown hitting up our two favorite stores, All Saint's (Allie) and Topshop (Catherine). Though we looked around and tried things on, nothing really caught our eyes. The stores where we bought things surprisingly were the cheap stores. This of course was good on our credit cards :)

We first went to Chill where Allie got this really cool sweater that she was dying to have. It's a sweater but it has a long piece of fabric hanging down that turns into a scarf! I got a really cute black and white houndstooth jacket that I loveeee.

The other cheap store we went to was Exstanza. Allie had been there before and had gotten some great things so we of course had to go. The store is nice because it has some really good looking outfits other than the cheap looking clothes. Shopping there was definitely a success. Allie got two adorable tops and I got a top and a little black dress.

Now when you go to New York, you of course have to go uptown to stores like Bendel's, which is just what we did next. Allie got her fix of Nars so that she can make an Old Hollywood look for homecoming. I got a creme blush from Per-fekt, which I love! I also stocked up on YSL.

New York Film Festival

so a few weekends ago i got to attend the world premiere of the film, The Social Network. It was a fantastic and glamorous night. When we got to the city, i went for a quick bite of sushi. Made a quick run to CVS for black nailpolish, and headed back to the apartment to get ready. I ended up wearing the new BCBG Runway Collection, Red chunky heels, and a matte embellished gray clutch. I went for an Old Hollywood look with my makeup, and a roll-out-of-bed hairstyle.
The Social Network is probably the best movie i have ever seen. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Homecoming. (Allie's P.O.V)

okay guys, heres the deal. To me, homecoming and most other dances are pretty darn gross. I go because it's an occasion to wear a fabulous fall outfit. Including Chunky earrings, Chunky cardigan, simple black dress, and phenomenal shoes and accessories.
I got my dress this year at an online store called Nasty Gal. My absolute favorite. I plan to wear it with my leopard topshop coat, red suede clunky heals, and vintage jewelry EVERYWHERE!

some advice from me to you...
avoid the shiny Jessica McClintock dresses that belong at 7th grade bar-mitzvahs with girls who don't know Vuitton from Versace. Go with something simple, timeless, and somewhat casual.

I have really gone head first into the vintage look this season and i think that it is so important for every girl to have at least 3 pieces of vintage clothing!
PLEASE comment or email your homecoming outfits to me!!! i would LOVE to see them.
i am also always around for style help and suggestions.

The Fabulous LADY GAGA

Sorry we haven't posted in a while!! As you all know, the school year is back in full swing, which of course means a mountain of homework building up. Two weeks ago Allie and I saw the AMAZING Lady Gaga in concert in Philly. She is absolutely wonderful and I suggest that everyone should see her!!

To show our support as devoted little monsters, we dressed up and did our makeup Gaga style (props go to Allie for her amazing makeup talent!!)

Lady Gaga's Bad Romance silver metal dress with amazing matching shoes!

Lady Gaga scats and plays the piano in leather lingerie and leather studded boots.

Throughout the night, Lady Gaga made many wardrobe changes and I unfortunately couldn't get good pictures of them all :( Before I wish you all a wonderful week, I would like to point out Lady Gaga's work as not only a performer but also as an advocate of Gay Rights. Last Tuesday the Senate voted on whether or not to repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell Policy. Unfortunately, the repeal was denied. If you want to find out more or show your support to get it repealed please check out her video! Lady Gaga's Don't Ask Don't Tell Repeal Video

Have a wonderful week!

Skincare for less

Though I do love the Clarisonic, not everyone has the money or wants to spend that much on something that washes your face. Recently I heard that some people wash their face with electronic toothbrushes. Weird right? My friend, however, just started using one and she really likes it! What's great about using the electronic toothbrush is that you can get it at a drugstore really cheap and if you don't like it, you don't feel bad about spending the $5. I definitely am going to have to try it and see if it really works.

Another product I heard about is this Aveda shammy cloth. It's $9.50 and it washes your face gently without hurting or damaging it. When you get it wet, it turns into a regular washcloth but when it dries, it hardens pushing the bacteria out of it. I will get back to you on it if really works because I really want one!

Emmys free or fall

This season I'm seriously in love with neutrals, navy, other earth tones, and of course black. (no surprise there) The Emmys last night had a fair share of fabulous, and an abundance of "did your child glue that together?" looks. I have to be honest and say i was pretty let down by the fashion on the red carpet last night. To me, the men looked 10 times better than the women. But there are a few exceptions...

Kim Kardashian in Marchesa looked like a true goddess. The white chiffon with the grecian draping and the egyptian neck collar took on a whole new form of stunning. Everyone knows Kim has the most incredible body, but this dress just accentuates the fact. Kim, having her hair up lets the dress stand out alone. Her long wavy locks would have been overpowering and distract from the fabulous Marchesa. well done Ms. Kardashian, you did it again!

Julianna Margulies looked Fantastic in L'wren Scot. Her fair skin and rich dark hair made the dress pop and stand on its own. The dress' stunning T shape from the bust and down really flatters Julianna. The look was topped of with refined but equally gorgeous black strapped booties. I seriously love this look because it is simple yet elegant and interesting all at the same time. i give this an A!

Kelly Osbourne turned heads wearing Tony Ward couture. I was pleasantly surprised by Kelly. I have to confess that i am not usually a fan of her clothing choices, but whoever styled this look did a SUPERB job. The top draping really flows into the netted portion on the bottom half of the dress. The subtle train really tops this dress off. i would also die for this dress in a nude.

Maria Menounos wore a jaw dropping Ralph & Russo gown. Words cannot describe my love for this gown. The colors blend so well and the neckline is to die for! i could do without the cut out in the middle, but i will have to sacrifice! I slight train makes the gown even more stunning. Maria's hair is pulled back which i think is a good choice, too much hair would overpower the gown. Red lipstick pulls this look together perfectly. My favorite of the night.

Gugu Mbatha blew me away in this Raw gown. She is already such a stunning person and her skin tone is to die for. Choosing a nude colored gown with subtle details and a lot of draping was the most incredible choice. Everything is fluid including the clutch. The only stand out portion of this look is her hair, which is still subtle but still very glamorous.

John Hamm is nothing short of delicious in this Georgio Armani tuxedo. Let alone being one of the sexiest men of television, he has incredible taste in clothing. The glasses really make this look an A. Wayfarers are definitely my favorite style of glasses, and on a man they are even better. especially this one. I am mad for the lapels on this tuxedo jacket and the stunning cufflinks. Job well done Mr. Hamm!

EMMYS Fashion: Fabulous or Flub-Up?

Last night from 8-11, millions of people sat in front of their TV to watch the Emmys to see if their favorite TV show won anything. Though I do love Glee, The Office, Gossip Girl, Desperate Housewives and more, the real reason I love to watch award shows like the Emmys and the Oscars is for the fashion. I love to see the different designers and dresses each actress wears and how they dress it up with accessories. Some actresses either hit the target and looked stunning while others looked rather bad. Here are some of my favorites of the night.

Claire Danes

To me, Claire Danes stole the show in this gorgeous Swarovski crystal-encrusted Armani Prive strapless dress. She looked simply radiant as the dress accentuated her curves and flowed gracefully to the red carpet. Her blond curls' glow brightened up her face giving her a mature look. She definitely has grown up from being Juliet in Romeo and Juliet with Leo. Claire also came away from the night with an Emmy for her role in Temple Grandin. What a night for her!

Sofia Vergara
Though Sofia may be all laughs on Modern Family, her show stopper Caroline Herrera gown was definitely no laughing matter. Sofia awed the crowds because she looked simply amazing in the stunning gold sequined dress. Her lush brown curls framed her face beautifully making her even more irresistible.

Dianna Agron

Lace is one of my favorite features in a dress and Dianna wore it beautifully. Her fair skin looked flawless against the pale pink and black of the dress. Her tiered Caroline Herrara dress definitely made her one of the best dressed of the night. While most mind find this dress hard to pull off, this Glee cast star had no problem. It was a good idea to have the hair up but it could have been done better I feel.

January Jones

On the show Mad Men, January looks fabulous without a hair out of place in her gorgeous 1960's outfits. So what went wrong here? I guess she is not used to the culture shock because her hair and Versace dress aren't hot. For one thing, January looks like she rolled out of bed and decided to find a dress that made her look like a peacock with pointy boobs. Blue looks good on her because of her blonde hair but the blue on that dress is not complimentary. Next time I hope her stylist takes more time in planning her modern clothes as they do on the show.
Betty White

Many people have criticized Betty White's attire and maybe they are right in saying she could have dressed better but the woman is almost ninety, people. Not many actors or actresses that old get to host SNL and win an Emmy for it. To me, I think Betty looked good and to those who haven't seen her SNL, watch it. It's really funny!

Mindy Kaling

Though I do love Mindy on The Office, I was not at all impressed with her outfit. She looks as if she is trying to be a witch and an ugly one at that. Maybe if she lost the cobweb shoulder she would look better. Her hair looks like she rolled it up into a ball and put it on her head. I really hope this was a joke because I can't take her seriously in that outfit.

Skincare to Beauty

Allie definitely knows her stuff about makeup. But what about the prep before it? Makeup can only go so far to hide blemishes. Washing your face is essential for good skin. What should you use though? One of the hottest skincare products on the market is the Clarisonic. I absolutely love it and suggest it to ANYONE who has skin problems. My face has noticeably cleared up and it feels really refreshing.

What product you wash your face with is also important. I know Allie uses Bliss, which she raves about but what I love is this face wash I got from L'Occitane. It cleans your face and make your skin feel silky smooth.
I usually wash my face twice a day but make sure that after you wash your face you put on a moisturizer. If you don't, your face produces extra oils that leads to acne. Any moisturizer is fine but I strongly suggest Bobbi Brown's vitamin enriched face base. It feels light and not oily.
Keeping your skin in good condition is very important. Having clean skin makes you look good and feel great. Take time and care with your skin. You'll thank yourself when you're old.

summer special events--BEAUTY

For the summer i usually like to go for a fresher, clean faced look, rather than a dark sultry look which i usually wear in the winter and fall. To me there is nothing sexier than a super long lash-line.
First i would start out with the appropriate color foundation if necessary. (i like to go natural on the skin, i think it is more appealing)
Then i would chose a deep bronzer or warm toned blush (i use Bobbi Brown, if you want to know the exact shade, comment) and start on the top of the cheek bone and swipe your way down to right above the smile lines and repeat until you get a nice warm tone. Don't forget to blend.
Find an eyeliner that fits your needs. Eyeliner colors that match your eyes can help enhance your eyes and draw people to them. You can never go wrong with classic black, though. I suggest L'Oreal eyeliner. It works really well and looks great, too.
Next i would take your most dramatic mascara (YSL) and make a super thick coat on the upper lashes and the lower. Repeat with a less dramatic mascara to refine and extract the clumps. Immediately after, curl your eyelashes using an eyelash curler for 15 seconds on each side.
Then, use a brown eye pencil to line the upper lash-line. Start on the outside and work your way in getting smaller and smaller. Not too heavy though.
Then, use a gold or brass shadow or cream (Mac paint pot) on the lids to create definition. not too much .
Line the brows with an eyebrow pencil (Bobbi Brown ) and start from the inside corner and work your way out. don't press too hard or it wont look natural.
Finish off with a neutral lipstick.
I would pull my hair back, wear FANTASTIC earrings and really let the eyes pop!
have fun in your sexy summer style! you will really impress them :)
a modified version of the natural look.

catherine lally

topshop $70

I am what my friends call me, a "prepsicle." I love clean cut outfits usually involving lace, floral print, bright colors, or anything classy. My favorite store is topshop, which is British. The outfits there range from preppy to punkish. The clothes are not too expensive and the only store in the U.S. is in New York.

j. crew turtleneck $158

I also love the store j. crew even though it is a little pricey. The clothes there are more mature and can be matched easily with almost anything. Even if you don't have the money to buy clothes there you can definitely get ideas about different styles to try. A lot of clothes there are things you can find at other places for a lot cheaper!

Allie and Me!

Allie and I have very different styles, yet we both agree on one thing. Bobbi Brown is the best makeup brand. I do like Chanel eyeliner and mascara but Bobbi Brown has wonderful everything. The most recent Bobbi Brown purchase of mine is the brow pencil which I love and suggest to anyone wanting to make a noticeable change to their look. It looks great!

I love looking and feeling good about myself in my clothes. Always wear what you want and never what people tell you to. Expressing yourself is important.

Allie Rose

Madonna, Desperately Seeking Susan

I would describe my style as... eclectic. I like to go for the statement pieces, oversized sweaters, and vintage jackets. I am a great believer in overdressing. I'd rather enjoy what i have on than wear a dull uniform. Makeup is a HUGE part of my life. I have done artistry for a few years and am a huge Bobbi Brown fan. Yes, it's cliche but I'm an actress. Singing, acting, art, music, and fashion are my passions and i am so lucky to have more than one.
One thing to know about me, I live in boots. My favorite store is All Saints Spitalfields and my favorite online store is Nasty Gal. please feel free to email me at rorose658@gmail.com for questions, advice, or anything at all !

FASHION
It is now the month of August, which unfortunately means school is just around the corner. While we all cram in the last bits of summer reading and buy our school supplies and books, the anxiety of another year of hell kicks in. There is one good thing about the beginning of school, though. Shopping for fall clothes!! I mean, what girl doesn't love arriving to school in the newest thing she bought to show off to her friends? I know I do! Which brings me to another point, if you dread school as much as I do, why not make it enjoyable and buy those cute sandals or gorgeous skirt you've been admiring? Being able to make school a little more fun by treating yourself to something you want is definitely worth it. So as you prepare to head back to school, look through catalogs or stores online and see what would you want for school. Starting off the school year strong by not only looking hot but feeling happy might even raise your grades or even catch a boy's eyes :) - Catherine

Well, Catherine certainly told it how it is. The start of school is a great way to kick off a new you or a new look. I get overjoyed when i think about the clothes that the new year is going to bring me. Now i actually have a reason to get dressed beyond leggings and a white V with a scarf and boots (which is NEVER a bad option). One cite that i recommend is www.shopnastygal.com . This online store has everything from vintage caftans to lace tanks. My personal favorite for the fall is the draped tank dress. The dress is black which means you can pair it with anything. I would pull my hair back in a chignon, wear some open-toed boots with heels, an extremely oversized sweater, your favorite long necklace, red lipstick, tons of mascara and you are set to go. Looking hot and still comfortable! Please send us pictures of your back to school outfits! and if you need any advice, that's what we are here for ! --xox Allie
